GPS for Recruiting Passive Candidates

Recruiting activities have been slow as of late and like most of my clients, I have become more focused on my own operating budget. Now that I have fully accepted that cost consciousness is the new normal, I’ve done my part and have successfully completed my personal and corporate tax returns. That’s right, I did it all by myself!…

The Resume - A Change We Can Believe In

It’s been a strange weekend. I went to see the new George Clooney film; waited in line and discovered that I went to the wrong movie theater. Now that I am back at home and with some time to kill, I thought this would be a good opportunity to write a new blog post. There have been many thoughts going through my mind lately with the wealth of new social media information that I have been internalizing about its application to recruiting and business in general. So, writing a blog post is… Continue

The Story of the Fisherman and the Recruiting Recovery of 2010

My friends, there is a huge ocean out there containing many species of fish, enough for everyone!

There was once a fisherman who was only interested in one type of fish. And that fish was the lobster. The reason why he was only interested in the lobster was because he loved lobsters. He knew where to find them, he knew how to catch them, and he knew many different ways to prepare delicious lobster meals. He had relationships with and belong to a network of lobster lovers; merchants… Continue

Old School Recruiting and Social Media

I got into a conversation with the guy standing on a step-ladder changing light bulbs while I waited for my wife as she browsed the merchandise in a boutique clothing store.

Being the old school recruiter that I am, I quickly discovered that his name was Fabian, he was the owner of the store, it was newly opened store in the area, and we were his very first customers.

The reason why I am blogging about this conversation is because this guy said a few things that has some… Continue

Depend on the Recruiter for Recruiting

As I waited at the traffic light on my way to the ERE recruitment conference in South Florida, I watched in amazement as a teenager rode a bicycle while texting on his cell phone. I immediately thought about the new multi-tasking skills that are being developed by the next generation of talent. It also made me wonder what I would learn from this ERE meet-up session; the last time I attended a recruiting conference was in 2000. As I recalled, Job boards and ATS were the talk of the town and… Continue

Searching For the New Recruiting Model

A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and it was obvious that something was weighing heavily on my mind. Actually, it was this free-to-fee recruiting business model that I read about on a LinkedIn group.

This new model appears very practical, it fulfilled a need, solves a career progression challenges and could possibly stimulate jobs growth and pull the economy out of this downward spiral.

But it was the perception and the lack of clarity on how to sell… Continue

FINDING TALENT IS EASY, RECRUITING TALENT IS HARD

At the end of a long day of interviewing with a gauntlet of people, the owner of the agency told me that they were impressed and wanted to know if I had any concerns about becoming a recruiter.

Coming from a sales background, I would say that he did a pretty good job of sensing my uneasiness because I had a huge concern!

Based on their characterization of the recruiting profession, I was confident that I had the skills necessary to be successful; however I was very… Continue
