Big Recruiting Conventions: Good for Recruiters?

PROBLEM:

Most major recruiting conventions aren't for regular, workaday recruiters like US.

I've been to a few major recruiting conventions (and was even a panelist at one), but not many. Have you ever noticed how few people over 30 or so get hired at early-stage startups, and while age discrimination is sometimes discussed, how rarely (if ever) you hear of startups being cited or working to age-diversify their early-stage hires?

Why Self-Proclaimed "Recruiting Thought Leaders" are Full of ****

PROBLEM:

There are a number of recruiters and former recruiters out there who can properly be called "Recruiting Subject Matter Experts". However, when someone calls her/himself a "Recruiting Thought Leader" (DEFINITION: “Someone who neither recruits, thinks, nor leads”) and

1) Isn't a recruiter/hasn't been one for a very long time, if ever.
