I get so frustrated with "your reply must be approved" on blogs....

Nothing bugs me more than entering a comment only to find the blog is moderated and my comment must be approved.

Do you want conversation?  If so - conversation is the free flow of dialogue.  That means - you say something, I say something, you reply, I reply and so on.

If you moderate your blog here - it more or less says "I am here to tell you what I think" which is not the way a thriving community continues to grow.

Thank you.

I don't recall.  Bob's blog started with something to the effect of "80% of all jobs are filled through networking" then went on to attribute that quote to Danny.  My reply said something like "Danny has somehow made a living by repeating pseudo facts he's heard from various sources" or something in a similarly dismissing vein.  Only Bob has the true record of my reply.

Either way -  I hate moderated comments.  Thanks for asking Amy!

Sounds perfectly reasonable. In fact, I have to say that Jerry - you are one of the most reasonable people in my network.

The fact that you called me a cranky old HR lady yesterday doesn't make me like you any less. :)

(ok you didn't exactly call me that...)

Now Bob, most recruiters who has ever read any of Danny boys stuff are of the opinon that he is totally full of crap.  So let me remind you that truth is a total defense where any kind of slander or libel is concerned.  In addition to that moderating comments is in my opinion just cheap shit.  Slander that birdlegs.

I just commented on a blog posted here and it said it had to be approved!  And i was agreeing with the guyy!!

But on my personal bl.og I get a lot of spam (buy this, buy that, porn stuff etc.) so i can understand the reason behind it but....

I'm sure people think my writing is crap, like how the hell does he know what he's talking about? I base my writing on talking with people like your colleagues, Sandra, or reading first account information. Some of the stuff I read here--and believe me, this is a great source of information--seems out there, but one has to separate truth from fiction. I still attest that I won't put anyone on the fire pit other than me.

Cora, I read your comments. I appreciated them because you actually read the whole article. Had you said, #3 is total bullshit, fine. Thanks for taking the time.

Bob - no one likes to try having a discussion if every comment has to be approved. RBC has plenty of traffic and it's a great place to get conversations going. When you replied to this topic - your reply was immediately posted. Anything other than that seems more like a personal marketing brochure than wbat this place is known for. Respectfully, Jerry in Indiana

I hear you. I don't want to come across as a narcissist who's only interested in positive comments. And I'm beginning to see that any blog posted requires original thought only--thus my last post. That way, only I will get any heat I deserve.

@bob if you don't want opinion expressed about someone else, don't serve them up as an authority to support whatever you are selling. Many of us have expressed our opinion of Danny's self serving hype on his site. One of the biggest problems recruiters and internal HR and hiring managers deal with on a daily basis is the result of bad advice given candidates by "career consultants", networking so called gurus who have had five jobs in seven years. They have become top candidates for the "bum steer" award. We spend more time re educating people about job hunting after the career gurus and networking prophets have sent them to the land of the loonies, thn we do placing them.

There are no spam bots, or junk allowed on posts on RBC. Tim stops that so if you get any it's because you are using your blog here to promote yourself, your site or your blog by putting a link to it in your post. If your purpose is to blog here to drive traffic to your site it's nothing but thinly disguised marketing. If someone is interested enough in what you have to say to check you out they can go to your page by clicking on your nme and quickly find your site link. Moderating comments will quickly get you ignored as will three infomercials in a row.

Jerry, you have a bee in your bonnet about Dan Schwabel (perhaps because he's more famous than you?)

That being said, criticism of "thought leaders" must be considered fair play in the comments section of any post that quotes that thought leader. Presumed-but-unverified wisdom gets repeated, and re-repeated, and re-re-repeated without critical analysis, which is how the erroneous 80% statistic continues to get passed around more than 15 years after it was first pulled out of thin air in an article about job search tactics for MBAs.  Protecting the "thought leader" from public criticism serves nobody.
