Honesty, Integrity, Compassion, Respect.

It's what we look for in a recruiter. Someone who is going to help in the job hunt, coach on how to get through the interview process, and provide all the information we need, to get that job of our dreams. And to do that, our recruiter needs to speak the truth. Full disclosure. The whole kit and kaboodle.

In addition, all of these qualities are also what job seekers look for in an employer. Candidates are always looking for the right company, that will value their values, value and respect their ideas and will be honest and transparent with their employees about everything.

I'm right, right?

I mean, no-one wants to work for a boss who lies to them, or withholds important information from their clients and team. Nobody wants the greasy sleaze for a boss. One without integrity. One without a trustworthy bone in their body.

On the other side of the coin, however, no EMPLOYER wants to hire a person that lacks these same traits. Nobody wants to hire the compulsive liar. Who wants the disrespectful team member, the offensive, disruptive and destructive person on their team, ever?

I know this post has a different tone to my other entries. We recruiters are charged with the responsibility to our clients AND candidates, to be as open and honest with the information we are given and give. I mean, how can a candidate truly consider a job opportunity if they don't have all the information on the role?

Not only are the traits in the title important career skills, they are important life skills. We expect the people we deal with in business, and in life, to be truthful. How else can we trust someone if what we know of them is a fallacy?

Job seekers, please please be honest with your recruiter. We need to know everything about your career history, so we can best represent you to the companies who are looking for people with integrity, compassion, honesty and respect. If you withhold information, or even tell untruths on your resume, they will come undone. They will backfire on you. Your future employer will eventually find out, and the integrity that you spent your career trying to build will be crushed in a second.

Please think about this before telling a fib in interview, or asking a friend to act as a reference for you, instead of your former employer. It is so important I can't find the words to push the point enough.

Employers must hire productive, dependable, and honest employees. Unfortunately some job applicants try to fool them, giving them dishonest answers and portray themselves as ‘better or different’ than they really are. Fortunately, employers can use methods to catch or detect if a job applicant lied to them; pre-employment tests, interview tricks and more to uncover if a job applicant is lying to them or hiding the truth.

Pre-employment tests, especially behavior or personality tests, offer a scientific method to catch job applicants who are dishonest, untruthful, or liars. That is one reason many companies use tests.

The personality tests you use to test job applicants must contain a lie, honesty, or "accuracy" scale. It includes questions that catch job applicants who tries to fool you or lie.

A behavior or personality pre-employment test can use a number of methods. The most accurate method is to ask truism questions.

Imagine a job applicant who lies on many of the truism questions. An applicant who cannot answer truthfully on many basic truisms of everyday life may be lying on other questions in the pre-employment personality test. When this happens, you will feel relieved the test uncovered the job applicant as someone who may avoid revealing difficulties on-the-job. That could prove mighty expensive and time-consuming for the person´s manager and the company.
