After having gone through a lay off during the holidays, I started doing something I thought I would never do: I started my own business helping folks with their resumes!

Especially in this market there are so many candidates for the few available positions out there, you have to know how to stand out and land an interview. So here is a link to my article on the top 10 resumes tips so you can learn better how to write a resume:…

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

This is an interesting contest, and since it is pretty random who will win anyway, it will be fun to see what everyone else thinks about themselves! :)

1. My motto is: "It is not just about who you know, but how well you keep in touch with them". I live by this motto, and more recently this has proven extremely important with my recent lay off and job search (as well as soul search). You… Continue

Thanks for everything, we're laying you off. Merry Christmas! (Days 7-14)

See the previous post to this series here.

So here we go! I have met with some fantastic organizations this past week. So far, as predicted, all have come from networking. I have received about 3 phone calls from the job boards this past week, but after calling me, the lower ranges of income that seem to be prevalent here in Utah came up within minutes of starting the conversation. As a result we… Continue

Thanks for everything, we're laying you off. Merry Christmas! (Days 5 & 6)

See the previous blog entry to this series here.

So the weekend ended and I got a flood of emails and phone calls on Monday (some of which came from my previous company as there are many there looking too). So many in fact that another week a has gone by and I still find myself responding to many of these emails and phone calls. (Sorry if you are one of those that I have not… Continue

Thanks for everything, we're laying you off. Merry Christmas! (Days 3 & 4)

See the previous blog entry here.

So on to the weekend!

So by this time I have have already received 3 job offers. Of course, they are for 100% commission roles, so those are extremely easy to offer since there is no risk on the part of the employer in many ways. The strange part is 2 of them were offers and I hadn't even spoken to anyone yet! How strange is that?

First… Continue

Steve, you were of significant inspiration in my last blog post. Think it's really great the way you are offering up your experience to help support others. We could all use a little music in our lives! Happy B-day tomorrow!

About how long ago did this Nathan work for Beyond? The name does not sound familiar to me. At the same time I have only been with the company a year and a half!

The east coast and more specific Philadelphia is good. We are still on a high from the Phillies World Series championship and hoping the Eagles can make a late season playoff run. Weather wise it's been a pretty mild winter. No snow accumulation.

So how is Utah Steve?

Hi Steve,

I am new to this blogging thing and I found some of your responses and though I would reach out. I work at LinkedIn and I have recently taken over a territory that includes UT. I was curious what conferences or recruiting get togethers you generally go to there? I am interested in looking into them. I would greatly appreciate the help. Feel free to reach me at bschmitt@linkedin.com also.

Thanks,

Brittany
