When you think about the full cycle of a job placement, you should have 5 main concerns. Without them, long term success in unachievable. This is true for third-party recruiters (fee based), corporate recruiters (HR based) and for educational career services professionals (placing graduating students).

Your Priorities:

1) What’s best for the candidates/students (aka jobseekers)

2) What’s best for the intern sites/client (aka employer)

3) What’s best for your direct employer

4) What’s best for you

5) What’s best for your boss

#1 is THE most important because of the trickle down factor.

When your jobseekers are treated with respect, honesty and good faith, they are gratified. They want feedback and guidance to succeed. They are working with you because they need your expertise and it is up to you to provide it. Get to know them, what they need and what will make them successful and then help them develop the resources to get what they need. Work with them on interview preparation techniques and the how-to of a winning interview. Teach them how to get the job offer.

A well-trained and developed jobseeker, referred by you to the employer, will excel at their job. Why? Because that job fills the jobseeker’s needs too! People can be passionate and driven when they are working on their own self-interests. When your jobseeker excels at their job, the employer is happy because you have solved a problem for them. The employer has asked you to find for them an employee based on a list of skills needed to perform the tasks of the position. You can make the employer happy by providing them with a jobseeker with those skills AND the desire to excel.

When both the employer and the jobseeker are doing great, they have your direct employer to thank for it. They will remember how you made them feel and will want to repeat that feeling with another placement every chance they get. That will keep the pipeline full. A full pipeline, with excellent jobseekers and confident employers, increases the likelihood of a higher placement ratio for you, which keeps your direct employer happy.

When your direct employer is happy, they will do whatever it takes to keep you happy. Your employer knows that it is your work ethic that is keeping everything flowing smoothly. Your employer knows that everyone else is happy because of your efforts. Be sure that your employer aware of what you need. Be sure that your employer knows what tools and equipment will make your job easier. Be sure that your employer knows what your career goals are and ask them to help you to pursue your goals.

Your boss is last for a reason. Everything starts and ends with your boss. They have the bottom-line responsibility for the office. Therefore, they want you to be happy. They want you to love your job. They know that when you are happy, you will work smarter and more creatively. They know that what you do or don’t do has an immediate effect of the profitability and efficiently of the company. Your actions have a direct effect on the brand awareness of your direct employer and the reputation of your boss. Your boss also knows that the company’s reputation affects the continued volume of placement activity which affects the likelihood of repeat business with the employers/intern sites/clients. Pleased employers/intern sites/clients bring in job orders. Job orders filled with jobseekers who are a perfect fit encourages referrals.

When everyone is happy and working productively, your boss is privileged.

When your boss is pleased, know that you have done well and keep up the good work!!
