Interviews can be pretty nerveracking, especially when you are desperate for that job.

Imagine a scenario - you have been out of a regular job for a few months; your mortgage hs not been paid for few months; your credit card dues have piled up...you can only be desperate...

Unfortunately the interviewer needs to hire a person, who is calm, cool & collected.

Even under normal scenario, the blank response in an interview can be a deal breaker.

What is "the blank response in an interview" that I refer to?

This is a response from the interviewer and not the candidate.

Some interviewers have this interview process where they do not demostrate any response either by articulation or by body language.

Imagine a scenario where you are interviewing with Mr. Harry Smith (HS) for a job as a Sales manager:

One of the questions Harry asks:

HS: Can you share a unique challenge that you faced as a Sales person and how you resolved it to the satisfaction of your customer? (A very cliche question, unfortunately)

You: As a seasoned sales person, each day and each client has brought in unique challenges. I have viewed each of them not as a challenge but as an opportunity..... you continue with your best known response and complete your response to the question ...

HS: Continues looking at you with an expressionless face or with a soft pleasant smile... but holds on the expression he has had through your response...

You: Assuming that you may have not answered adequately or to his satisfaction take off from where you left earlier ... Harry, if I can elaborate on unique experiences on the field...

Most candidates start digging a hole for themselves from this point on. The moment, you believe you have delivered your best possible response for an interview question - STOP RIGHT THERE. Do not attempt to explain yourself to unasked queries. As a candidate, invariably you will only keep digging a deeper hole with each sentence.

It will be prudent to stop talking once you have finished your response. Learn to live with an eerie silence, if there is one. If you find it nerveracking; then at best you may ask: Harry; is there any specific detail that you are looking for?

Best tactic, respond to Harry to the next question and move on...
