The simple things bring down most interviews

After the long memorial day weekend I found myself without a topic in which to blog about so to try and break the writers block I was reviewing many of the recruiting/career blogs that I frequent for some interesting topics in which to play off of in my article, and wouldn’t you know I found something here.

In a survey about interviewing etiquette Valut.com goes through many questions about how people approach and handle interviewing and while you can pick it apart and read a lot into the information my big take away is that most people either don’t care enough to prepare for the interview or enough after to ensure that they are one of the primary targets of the hiring official.

So remember to do the little things: do your company/industry research, dress appropriately, show up on time, don’t pick your nose (or answer your cell), and don’t forget to send a thank you note (emailing it is ok).

Bill - Great reminder. My daughter just interviewed for a position as a sales person at a specialty makeup retailer chain (high end, part of an international brand consortium that could really benefit her in the future), and I had her on that computer looking up the website, checking out the company history, and familiarizing herself with their business model. Of course, the company didn't ask her any questions about this, but if they had - she would have been prepared. No job is too "small" to do this type of research, especially in this job market. Good article!! PS She was offered the job on the spot and starts in a week!
