Hiring Demand for Recruiters Still Growing – Up 10% in September

During September, more than 5,300 job ads were posted for Recruiters. Although a decline from August's post-recession high in demand (when more than 6,000 new jobs were advertised online), this represents not only a 10% year-over-year increase, but also 7% growth from the beginning of the year. An increase in hiring demand for Recruiters may be a good indicator that companies plan on hiring more in the coming months. Employers and staffing firms each placed about half the job ads during this time period.

We also looked at average salaries for Recruiters in the cities with the highest demand and on a national level. Nationally, the average salary ranges from $39,500 to $52,000. However, the range varies slightly by location with Washington, DC having the highest range of the cities with the most demand and Dallas seeing the lowest range of these 5 cities.

Location Volume of New

Average Salary Range
Nationally 5,310 $39,500 – $52,000
New York 435 $50,000 – $72,800
Washington, DC 304 $52,000 – $70,000
Chicago 230 $40,000 – $52,000
Los Angeles 228 $45,000 – $55,000
Dallas 190 $39,500 – $50,000

Just as salary ranges vary from location to location, so will recruiting conditions. The Hiring Scale™ shows that the national talent pool consists of about 8.7 potential candidates in the workforce for every advertised job. These jobs are likely to be moderately hard-to-fill. In comparison, Washington, DC is likely to find these openings more difficult to fill than average, with just 6.7 candidates per opening. Hiring managers and staffing professionals with Recruiter openings may spend more time and expenses on filling these positions. However, job seekers in the DC area looking for work are likely to see relatively easy conditions, since there is high demand and a smaller talent pool.

Employers and Staffing Firms that find Recruiter positions hard-to-fill due to small talent pools, can look to several locations across the country that are experiencing significantly easier recruiting conditions. According to the Hiring Scale, the five cities with the easiest conditions include Norwich (CT), Augusta (GA), McAllen (TX), Winston-Salem (NC), and Springfield (IL).
