When is a consultant not a consultant?

So I know allot of companies have changed the title of the staffing professionals to include the term “consultant”.  However the problem is their definition of consultant is incomplete. In most cases they are having the staffing professionals (SP) live up to the advice part of being a consultant but not the service part. They want their SPs not to solve the problem but instead advise and help the client solve the problem themselves. While in some cases this is the correct approach in other it is not, however the companies do not want the SPs to solve problems. The reality is we are hired because we are experts in a particular field and while in some cases we do indeed want to advise our clients in others we need to solve the problem.

The definition of a Consultant is: professional adviser: an expert who is providing advice or services in a particular field. The service part means to give the client what they need and to solve problems.

So if you are asked to be or act as a consultant remember you are not just there to advise but to solve problems and ultimately provide a service to help the client in any way needed.
