Hiring for Supply Chain Professionals Ramps Up

Companies have been focusing more on their supply chain security as a way to prevent losses and ensure quality of their products – especially in today's global market. This is being seen all the way to the US government, which announced a National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security last week. Companies that are focused on their supply chains are hiring along with this trend. Over the past 90 days, more than 49,000 job ads were posted online for supply chain and logistics management. This is a 24% increase over the same 90-day period last year.

Some companies that have placed the most job ads for supply chain specialists include Deloitte, McKesson, Pensky, IBM, the Army National Guard, Target, and Boeing. All of these companies have increased the volume of job ads over the past year. While Deloitte placed the most job ads for these skills, IBM saw the greatest year-over-year growth, increasing hiring over 500%.

The Hiring Scale™ shows that supply chain professionals are likely to be moderately difficult to recruit. Hiring has increased, while the talent supply of supply chain skilled workers has not grown as fast. Recruiters in San Jose, CA are currently experiencing a more competitive talent marketplace and see a longer time-to-fill for open positions. In San Jose, job ads stay online for an average of 7 weeks. In comparison, the national average is 6 weeks – one full week shorter than in San Jose. Employers with job openings in this area are likely to spend more on the recruiting process and attracting potential candidates.
