4 Reasons All Recruiters Should Use Applicant Testing

Applicant testing can weed out unqualified candidates by validating their skills. Whether you’re an HR representative, a recruiter, or a CEO, applicant testing will provide many benefits to your firm and can help ensure the placement of quality candidates that can get the job done. Here’s how it can help you:

Narrow the Playing Field

With hundreds of resumes flooding a recruiter's inbox daily, chances are most candies won't fall under the 'ideal' category. Without a team 30 recruiters deep backing you up and infinite time to find a new employee, you should consider employee testing. Administering tests can help ease the workload, and simultaneously eliminate unqualified candidates.

Avoid Legal Landmines

Certain tests are required for consideration within some industries. For example, employees involved in food and beverage services need to understand general sanitation and preparation practices. Before looking through any resumes, it’s important to make sure that you have federally certified all your candidates. Who wants to hire a new employee only to be forced to let them go over legalities?

Track Your Employees Learning

Skill testing can give a good idea of what a potential employee knows before they join the company ranks. After a hire is made, periodic testing allows you to track employee improvement, and thus determine raises, promotions (or demotions,) and so forth. Additionally, you’ll be able to tell how well employees retain information after seminars and training sessions.

Improving Efficiency of Newly Hired Staff

Hiring a new employee can be one of the most costly ordeals for a company to experience. As business blogger Annie Mueller writes in an Investopedia blog, "...even an $8/hour employee can end up costing a company around $3,500 in turnover costs, both direct and indirect." With so much at stake financially, it's important to make sure incoming employees will actually be able to do their jobs. Using tests to screen a candidate's proficiency in a specific skill (for example, how well a programmer knows their way around JavaScript) ensures your money won't go to waste.
