Approaching a Year- Why You Need to Blog

It is approaching quickly.  1 year.  1 year ago I wrote my first blog.  It was called "The Simple Things" http://bit.ly/MjKaeQ  it trended better than I would have ever imagined.  I had never written anything other than a college paper.  Why did I start writing?  Why did I start blogging?  I think I wanted to tell a story.  I wanted to help others.  I wanted to share my experiences with people so they could learn from not only my achievements but mistakes.

I would have never imaged in a million years that people would be interested in what I had to say.  I still am in awe.  I guess people can relate.  I truly don't know.  I feel l have learned a lot over the past year.  As an otherwise unrecognized recruiter outside of Austin, I have had people from around the globe want to connect with me and talk about their similar experiences.

I have done some pretty cool things.  I have taken myself completely out of my comfort zone and voiced opinions and debated with world renowned top recruiters.  I have gone on the Animal Show.  I started using Twitter, which I had not used regularly until late last year.  I have done some pretty cool guest blogs.  I have made some great friends.  I have become a featured blogger on Recruitingblogs.com, which still baffles me.

So what does the next year bring?  I don't know yet.  If I can connect with people and help just 1 person, then I think I will continue to write.

I guess what I am trying to say is there are others out there just like me.  I encourage you to put your thoughts on paper.  Listen, comment, and learn.  I have written some good stuff, and looking back some pretty bad stuff also.  I've learned what people like, and what they don't.

My writings are 100% original. What I have realized is that In the social media era, blogging has become increasingly important.  People do want to hear your ORIGINAL story.  In 1 year you will be amazed of what you have accomplished.

Recruiter or not, I want to challenge you to become a SME at whatever you do.  Voice your opinions and learn.  For me, Recruiting Blogs has allowed me to connect with some of the best recruiters from around the world.  Find a site that works for you.  Connect with the leaders.  It will make a difference.

Happy Friday all.  Good Luck

Will

Thanks for this, Will.  I've been debating back and forth to start.  The idea intrigues, I start writing, then I end up bypassing.  This may help push it...but I don't know.  Good writing...

Give it a shot Seth.  I guarantee you have some stories to share and some thoughts to share.  Blogging has helped my career in so many ways.  It can help yours too.  Good luck!  Will

Noel- It has been a wild ride.  Never in a million years would I have thought I would have written anything.  I am kind of addicted at this point.  Thanks for sharing content.  What a great platform to do so.

Thanks Wll for the encouragement.  I am new to all this social media stuff but I like to read all the views and maybe one fine day I will be able to add my own.  It seems as if all the interesting topics have been covered so finding something new and refreshing is a bit daunting, but as you say, just start and then the ideas flow.

Hey Barbara.  You know it is funny.  I felt exactly the same way when I started.  I thought about it for years before I actually put pen to paper.  Let me put it this way.  You are a recruitment director from Zimbabwe.  I am from Austin, TX.  How cool is that?  I have tons to learn from you as do others.  :)
