Using SMS to be One of Your Recruiting Tools

Now your company can recruit faster and more efficiently thanks to SMS.

In the past, recruiters had to be part time headhunters, part time spies, sneaking around in pubs and water closets, hoping for just a few moments of privacy with job candidates. So how is SMS changing the playing field?

Here's why SMS is spot on as a recruitment tool….

Privacy

Previously, recruiters have had to be reticent about leaving messages on answerphones, in case current employers, coworkers or even nosy barmen eavesdropped when it was being played.

SMS is a private communication that shows up only on the target's mobile, with no need for the recipient to speak or give awkward, coded replies.

Instant Access

Having to operate only within the boundaries of normal business hours used to put a strain on communication go rounds.

Since the ringer isn't needed when vibration mode is activated, recruiters can SMS round the clock without worry about disturbing meetings or family time.

Written Record

With SMS, there's a neat little automatic written history of correspondence, so both parties can refer back to previous texts to confirm details like promises, dates and salary requirements.

When deals were being made inside phone boxes with lorries roaring by, recruiters and candidates had to struggle to hear, and then commit details to memory.

Speed

Going to and fro with emails or whispered telephone calls is a thing of the past. By the time you've got your candidate aligned with your client, one or the other may have flown the coop and found satisfaction elsewhere.

As the following article shows, now your company can fill vacancies fast with SMS.

Got a client?

Dial up one or five of your qualified candidates, type up a quick SMS and send it off. Since most people on Planet Earth respond quickly now to texts, you may be able to seal the deal - or at least the interview - the same afternoon.

Last Minute Changes

Recruiters used to fret about last minute changes and how to contact candidates straight away so appointments weren't missed and clients left waiting in front of the takeaway.

Last minute changes make no worries now. Recruiters can easily update plans via SMS whilst organizing new plans with their other hand.

With SMS in your arsenal, all you have to do is make sure your company hires a reliable SMS marketing platform provider to ensure your SMS system is up and running when you need it.

Give your recruiters the SMS tools they need to get the message out to their clients and their candidates.

My question for you is 1) What companies are doing this well? and 2) can highly regulated companies do SMS (yet)?

Great questions, Katrina. ToyWorld, AutoBarn and TackleWorld have all committed some portion of their marketing budgets to SMS. As far as highly regulated companies, such as those regulated by the ASIC, I believe they are not limited by financial regulations. As long as their marketing campaigns - whether print, live media like television or SMS - doesn't favor subscribed customers with access to non-public financial info, they are safe.
