Design Your Career and Salary Needs

Virtually everyone wants to make more money and have an enjoyable career, but too few people recognize the true value they bring to the workforce.

There are many reasons that people devalue themselves, including being told that they are less valuable by previous bosses and due to being rejected after multiple job interviews.

Once this happens, a vicious cycle forms and affected workers begin to think that they will never be able to get ahead.

How to Break the Cycle

In order to break this cycle, you first need to take a step back and take a breath.

It can be easy to miss the big picture if you're involved in the cycle of devaluing yourself.

Next, think about your brand.

Who are you? What skills do you bring to the table? How does your personality factor into your work?

The answers to these questions and more will play a large role in branding yourself.

Essentially, you want to be known as the professional who comes across as a total package.

Your personal brand is who you are as a human being and as a professional, blending both parts together perfectly.

Consider Your Location

If you're still finding it difficult to sell yourself during the recruiting process, despite having a strong personal brand, think about your location.

As pointed out in the article, "5 Keys to Earning More as an Architect This Year," relocating can be a very important factor in designing your career and earning more money.

Economically depressed areas tend to take many years to recover, and if you live in one and you're looking for work, the situation is not going to turn around overnight.

As a result, you may need to think about relocating to an area that offers more career opportunities, especially in your chosen field.

Continue Your Education

Another thing to consider is your level of education, both formally and informally. Many people find that going to school or going back to school to earn an advanced degree can help them in their search for a new position.

Additionally, certification programs and training are great ways to learn new skills and impress recruiters.

You can also take the time to learn on your own.

The internet provides so many free or low-cost learning tools these days that can be used in your spare time. Even if these tools don't provide you with a degree, they can help you to promote yourself to recruiters.
