At Prime Financial Recruiting, we’re working hard to find you the best in the business. While we do that, here are some tips to make your next interview a great one:

  • We make sure the candidate is qualified, but you can ask them questions to find out who they are as a person. What sets them apart from any other candidate we may send you? What can they do for you that no one else can?

  • There are certain preferences you cannot ask about, as they are protected under law, and if you choose not to hire them, they could claim it was one of those reasons. Avoid topics such as religion, sexual preferences, age, disability, and whether or not they have or plan to have children. Instead, you can keep it to one general question: are there any accommodations that will need to be made in order for you to perform your job?

  • A unique spin on some old questions can be made by asking: On a scale of 1-10, where would you rate yourself compared to others in the industry? What stops you from being a 10?

  • Throw in an oddball question. This will help you not only get to know the person, but also will demonstrate whether or not they think well on their feet. Ask who their favorite superhero is and why, what’s their favorite color, what is #1 on their bucket list, etc.

  • Ask them to describe their ideal work environment. Some people work best in a team, some work best alone, and some want a mix. Learn what they need from you to be the most productive.
