We Don't Use Job Boards, We Use Monster!

It never ceases to amaze me when a Director of Recruiting makes a statement like, "We don't use job boards, we use Monster". This was the answer given to a collegue of mine as they were discussing online recruiting strategies. It's clear to me that there is still a great divide between tech savvy recruiters and HR people and those that are still living in the days of classified ads

One of the interesting things about technology is that early adopters are always amazed that the more conservative, value buyers, don't get it.

Monster really works and provides value for its customers. Search the resume database and get tons of candidates. Post a job and get responses. Like the other derivatives of old fashioned classified advertising, these tools work well for certain kinds of recruiting.

They do not work well for everything.

But, neither do the newer sourcing approaches. What is useful, I think, is a view of sourcing tools as a spectrum. Each tool has some applicability to specific problems. This is a more sophisticated view than is held by the HR Managers you describe.

The "better" ways are brilliant but involve a lot of hard work. Not everyone is compensated to work that hard. As time passes and the approaches are simplified by smart vendors, adoption rates will take off.

It took Monster over a decade to become the Web 1.0 Replacement for print ads (and print ads are still useful for some things).

It will take next generation tools another six or seven years to achieve brtoad adoption. Jeez, the enterprise vendors still can't roll out modular corporate employment sites. And, there isn't yet an interesting standard for the staffing industry website.

It can be really frustrating that things move so slowly. It's not entirely because the other side of the divide is occupied by lazy, shiftless idiots.

Just partly.

That's a pretty well reasoned reply John. I am right now experiencing the very "slow adoption" you speak of.

We've built the next generation in staffing tools and it's like the world is not even ready for it. The technology is so clearly beneficial I just figured the world would jump right on it!

In most cases I feel like trying to explain how a wheel works, or what a pair of shoes does or the like.

Crazy.
