Job Centers See Crush of People in Need

"They have little in common: Ron Jones, 52, short and strong, a union carpenter with decades of work experience; and Jerome Grant, 20, tall and thin, a Jamaican immigrant with a degree in culinary arts. But the economy has pushed them to the same difficult place.

On a recent morning, they sat across from each other at a one-stop career center here, feverishly applying for two months of temporary work with United Parcel Service. The pay was $8.50 an hour. There were 150 slots, and more than 300 applicants."

The entire New York Times article

My years in recruiting have left me with little faith as to the ability of the counselors in these Federally funded career centers to help job seekers. Just like my work assisting Armed Forces Recruiting I think it's time to spend a few hours each week providing "inside information" to job seekers at these career centers.

Thoughts? Will any of you follow me there?

Hi Steve, I'm ex-NAVY and Gulf War Veteran. I'm there! I believe there will be a big pay off by helping. It's a win win situation.

Let me know how I may help.

Best regards

Lonnie- I've been told I'm too old to enlist (long history on the recruiting blogs of me supporting the cause) even with my "abundant physical attributes." In fact, early in December I'm attending a meeting as part of another place to hang my hat as part of the Navy SEAL RDAC.

One way to start is for you to point fellow vets to this blog...

Navy seals are a rare bunch- I used to work out with those guys/ We had powerlifting competitions on the Aircraft Carrier. I just sent out several hundred invites to my LI NAVY connections. Hoping to get more involved here.

Thanks

Lonnie
