1. I have an innate interest in people.
2. I'm curious about people.
3. I like people.
4. I like talking to people.
5. I'm a very good listener.

And they can tell that about me and in turn they tell me EVERYTHING about themselves, and before I know it, I understand their value system and if I'm able, I can either engage them as a candidate, or provide them better service as a hiring manager. It's really that easy.

Hmmm... I get the qualities you list and agee to the importance of them, however, how does that make you a "smart" recruiter?

By listening! Smart people listen. There's a lot of information that gets left on the table by recruiters who think they are smart, but they don't "really listen", therefore are they smart? Do they have all the information?
