Job Insecurity caused by the media?

So, UK unemployment figures have now risen above two million for the first time since 1997. This has led suggestions there are now 10 job seekers for every vacancy advertised currently with the job centre.

Although there is an increase in unemployment and a decline in current vacancies these figures could be doing more than just stating unemployment statistics. There is more competition for current vacancies, but as the media repeatedly report that times are tough and jobs are harder to find they could be planting a seed of doubt amongst job seekers, which could be affecting candidates approach to job seeking?

Since the UK has been heading towards a recession the media have been criticised for over exaggerating and creating unnecessary worry in an already competitive employment industry. If things were to change tomorrow and there were reports of an increase in vacancies will candidates start applying for jobs with a new found confidence?

As new jobs become available job seekers should, and hopefully will start to apply with confidence and interview with confidence as they would have two years ago. By approaching all employment opportunities with the same confidence candidates can ensure that they will give a true impression of themselves and provide potential employers with a clear picture of the real person behind the application, not a candidate with a lack of confidence.
