This is less of a Blog and more of a question or request for advice.

I'm 5 years in the business, recently promoted to Director (manage several recruiters), my production has gone up every year and 2010 was my personal best at over 560K (#1 in company) in direct hire contingent fees. I'm staring at my board with 0's across it and I cannot find the motivation/fire to do it again.

I have read through several blogs on the site and there seems to be little conversation on the topic that I know we all have/will face in our careers.

With so many great recruiting minds on this site, does anyone have any advice that might help me?

Thanks,

Jason

Wow!  He slammed the group all day - said my writing sucks - then deleted all his posts.  I guess that's the game he plays.  Good riddance!

Like i said, one can not reason with a poo slinging monkey, they don't recognize their poo as poo.  They like their poo and think everyone else should too.  They start to decompensate, scream louder, the poo fragments, grammer falls apart, spelling fractures, words repeat, hostility increases, they start to go back and take down posts, talk about how intelligent they are, profess to be authorities on everything period, nobody understands them, they become arrogant and paranoid cause the folks do not like their poo, but they keep slinging poo to get more attention.  I have also observed that they always rant about being taken out of context, misquoted and are without fail, financially independent.  I guess if one is a poo slinging monkey it doesn't take much to cover peanuts and bananas.  Damn, maybe if could learn to sling nasty poo i wouldn't have to work for a living.

The interesting thing about throwing rocks at a poo slinging monkey is that they get louder and more hostile and sling more poo and then it comes...a poo slinging rant about Free Speech, mind control and the grassy knoll.  And above all as they become more fragmented they will always be intent on having the last word or hunk of poo , if you will.  Is that an animal control truck i see coming down the street.

In the internet lexicon a troll is a troll.  I prefer the poo slinging monkey as it brings a funnier image to mind.  Having named it, everytime the folks see it in the tree all they have to say is, "Oh god there comes that poo slinging monkey again." Nuff said, it has a name and everybody knows what it is going to do.  We could create a new internet game called, "Here comes the monkey, dodge the poo."

Have we not learned anything in the past week about calling out a hostile personality and paying attention to the derrangment thereof.  Robert, in my opinion, you need some professional help that has nothing to do with recruiting, we can joust with you, try to reason or make fun of your vitriol but seriously , in my opinion, your combo plate is short a taco or two.  If you don't see it and obviously you don't i sincerely hope someone around you does and will take action.  Ask someone you trust to read your posts and give you an opinion as to how and what you are saying before you come apart at the seams.  You are attacking everyone and anyone far beyond debate or discussion.  Take a step back and decide if it feels good to be a poo slinging monkey or not.

Monkey gone, congenial coversation and heated debate may now continue amongst peers.  At least he took his poo with him.

Sandra - we aren't a clique are we?  I mean - we sort of know each other through conversation here -but we don't have a secret handshake or anything.

Are we mean to people for no reason?  Was it me who started this whole thing?  You know how important it is for me to be loved by everyone - it's how I pay the bills - so let me know what I should/could learn here.......

I wouldn't be a member of a clique that would have me as a member.

Jerry you are so intent on everybody liking you that sometimes it makes me gag.  I on the other hand do not give a roaring rat's ass who likes me.  I calls em like i sees em, i think the whole world is funny , people are interesting particularly smart people, except sick personalities.  If you and i have a secret handshake i am so old that i can't remember it.

No you didn't start it.  This guy has been lurking around firing in strange, nasty comments off and on for several months.  They have been so ugly that most were ignored.  It has been my experience that personalities like this one who manage to make more than one person mad or offend more than one person at a time always think if more than one person objects to their garbage that there is some sort of conspiracy ie clique that is out to get them.  Let's not worry about  folks objecting to objectional behavior be mistaken for the cause of the bad behavior.

Neither you nor I nor most people who are sane, adults pick fights, but i seem to have a knack for ending them.  But sometimes it takes a village.  If there really were a monkey in the village square slinging poo either the folks would drop a box over it or have someone haul it off.  Sometimes they just run away.  Fortunately.

Jerry,

It wasn't you. This was a nice, supportive thread where people were quite sympathetic to how Jason was feeling, until this person came in and started attacking everyone. He was so nasty for no apparent reason and it was so bizarre that I stayed far away until now.

Sandra,

As usual, loved your analogy. Monkey Poo is perfect!
