what books would you recommend to a beginner??

There's always been that one good book or great video that someone kept or refers to when they start out in recruiting.  Being that there is so much to chose from out there with mixed reviews.... how does someone like me who is a beginner choose??

So Please, to all the great recruiters that wouldn't mind sharing some advice as to what books, videos, webinars, sites to look at or read would be a great help to all the "rookies"  like me ?

Boss of my last company which was 140 people in Tokyo was a huge fan of Bill Radin- http://www.billradin.com/

I never listened personally, but he used the CDs to conduct trainings for new and mid-level Recruiters.

Hope this helps

Steve Finkel has a book that's great, think it's called Breakthrough. Search on Amazon for it, lots of great info there.

For videos, if you're a beginner, I'd strongly recommend investing in the www.nextlevelexchange.com It's about $100 a month, but has new videos each month, one focused on a different recruiting topic and the other by a Big Biller. And there's a library with a video collection for rookie training that has a module for everything about 15 of them and it's excellent stuff. There's also tons of scripts and articles and a great reference resource in general. I subscribe for my office and look forward to the new videos every month.

In addition to books mentioned on recruiting, I strongly believe that any reputable book that addresses relationship building is a must for this industry.  You can learn about industries, position needs, negotiating, etc. but being able to build and maintain relationships is not as easy as it sounds.

Read Paul Siker's "Proactive Recruiting In A War For Talent Economy".  It's the best on candidate recruitment.  Also, visit Scott Love's website - www.greatrecruitertraining.com.  He has lots of free info or you can join his coaching club.  Good luck!

I really enjoyed reading Hire with Your Head by Lou Adler...a good primer on best practices in the hiring process.
