Facebook is losing users in US, Canada, UK and other early adopters

Interesting data on facebook Business Insider

The WOW factor is slowing down possibly, most people figured out what it is and are losing interest.

We have seen this affect Myspace a while ago. Is Facebook compelling enough for long term success ? We'll find out..

The secondary question becomes:  Are they actually losing USERS or simply the inactive sign-ons who decided to disconnect?

One comment that I read, it makes some sense..

"Teens found out that their parents and grandparents were on Facebook"

The most recent stat I saw showed that only 57% of job seekers use Facebook (compared to a whopping 93% using LinkedIn and 89% using Twitter) - so the fact that FB users are falling off should be no cause for alarm in the recruiting community.

Personally, use FB for business has still evaded logic IMO. It seemed redundant with your corporate site or blog and more than a little unprofessional - a recent post here on Recruiting Blogs http://www.recruitingblogs.com/profiles/blogs/recruiters-at-last-so... made the comment that:

"Facebook is like a pub: It’s an informal place where people get together with old friends, shoot the breeze, tell risqué jokes, and meet people they have never spoken to before. There are few rules and people certainly tend to misbehave there at times, often feeling embarrassed later about what they have said, shown or done! But real friendships can start there, and what’s more business can be done over a beer in the Facebook pub, so it’s not to be ignored."

I actually disagree with most of this - except that networking in a bar with misbehaving people is not the place I want to be conducting business. You can make more meaningful business connections on LinkedIn - and Twitter is like the new cold call. To me, FB page is like a party in my house. I only invite people that I know IRL or would feel comfortable enough with using my bathroom or talking with my children (that is, if I had any).  This may include some clients & people from the office - but certainly not all of them, and not all my neighbors either.

I also find politicians on FB particularly distasteful -- like whores in love with their own reflection - I hope they start falling off soon.

Teens weren't really the driver behind facebook - the first wave of users they had is not approaching 30 and life demands are increasing - jobs, family/kids, etc.  If we look at who the users are and where the growth is, it really wasn't teens.

On the flip side, there is an increased number of youth (kids of the original users) that are using facebook now...

Based on blogs I have read Facebook has reached its saturation point in the United States and is looking at adding more Countries as well new College Grads take their profiles off FB in fear of having the "Drunk out of your mind" pics being found by potential Employers. This is a growing trend. FB is still a great place for Marketers however. I am with Sylvia - I only use FB for non-business stuff. With an identity only my close friends, colleagues and family know. Professional life should remain on SM communities like LinkedIn.

Annecdotal feedback from FB users I have spoken with indictate that people are wary of Facebook due to their seemingly 'fast and loose' approach to privacy. All business and commercial activity relies upon trust and if the user population feels insecure about a particular product or service, then that product or service will never reach it optimum level.

On a personal note, new developments and innovation seems to have slowed down on FB (the core application excluding apps) or is that just me imagining it?

facebook is not innovative while I find Google+ to be setting new ways of generating user base. Couple with this there are more features in G+
