Reflections from My Brief Period as the Temporary Future Owner of Recruitingblogs

Yep.  I was in there.  Mentally I was already making my plans.......but I've already been outbid and the auction doesn't end for 11 more days.  What auction? This one. This place. Here. "We" are for sale!

Am I cut out for blog ownership?  Nope.  I'm a recruiter.

Would I be bummed out if the next owner of RBC decided to turn the place into something that wouldn't even resemble the place we've come to know and love?  You bet.

So for a brief moment I threw my meager hat in the ring.  I'd make sure nothing changed.  I would police the spammers and con artists.  I was ready to ensure the one true "watering hole" out here - in this giant web world - remained.

Dear future owner(s):  Please don't come here and try to make RecruitingBlogs something it is not.  It's a very simple gathering place for the recruiters of the world.

Hi Jennifer. Yes this site is run on ning and the actual invoice I get from Ning every month is about 35 bucks or so. Absolutely Ning could shut down tomorrow. The good thing about Ning is that all of the networks on Ning are portable meaning every piece of content and the relationships between members can be restored on another platform. I think it is pretty much very difficult for $200 to build a network like RecruitingBlogs.com. I have seen many people try over the years. There is more to this site than names and email addresses and some user data. Ning is a great technology partner and they are always releasing new functionality. There is a lot of different ways people find value in this site and I really have no idea what the ultimate price will be but I know that those who are going to try to seriously acquire RecruitingBlogs.com see more to the site than just names and user data and are aware of the fact I don't own the technology that runs the site. The good thing is that in all of the discussions I have been having and there have been many each day, they all recognize how amazing this recruiting community is.  Forgive me for my terrible grammar.

It's starting to get hot in the bidding.  This is going to be fun to watch in last few minutes. It is making a lot of people feel good that what Slouch has created and we have all been a part of is proving its worth on the commercial market.

what you dont' get Jennifer? is that in this community we don't hide behind phony names or high blown credentials.  We are just a bunch of working recruiters and HR types who say what we think, try to help each other, take issue with each other and at the end of the day if we are who we say we are we feel that we are a part of something that is important  and that is important to each of us in our own way.  We don't hide in the weeds like a car chasing dog to just jump out there when we have something to bark about.
