Here is how to get everyone to remember you privately and professionally.

I am here to give you my secret to success and how you will be remembered by everyone you meet. It is Thank You Notes. I know this sounds simple and maybe even silly, but here is what I do. Every time I got to a party, not a kegger, but a party, I write a thank you note for the invitation. I do it for friend's parents, my husband's boss, my manager, my social network...anyone. It does not have to be long, but it has to be hand written on a nice card.

Here is why you should do it:

Almost every time I write a note, I get the response that I was the only one to do so. People really remember those small touches. It makes the person fell appreciated and makes you stand out among the crowd. It is so effective because it is unexpected and does not have any motive behind it. People expect notes for gifts or after you interview them, but do not expect them for invitations. There is also no motive behind it besides being polite and expanding your network.

Here is why it works:

Now it might sound old school, but that is the point. It seems quaint, and it gives the impression that you are gracious, polite, and nice. It takes a matter of minutes but it means the world to people. This is a way to build your network for your needs down the road and not for your needs today. It is much easier to ask for a favor when you have built a strong foundation. I will say it once and I will say it again, all of successful business is networking...So take "Note"

I have found that the thank you is a lost art and by simply remembering people, you can make a huge impact. Teach this to your children early and it will be impactful for the rest of thier lives.

Thank you for the article. In real estate it is a common practice to send Thank You notes. I think we all need to do more of it.
