Benefits of Using a Recruiter - The Sequel

The author of this blog has chosen to delete comments.

I doubt there is a better way of illustrating that the argument presented in your blog post has absolutely no intellectual rigour, than deleting comments.

And for the record, the two comments that were deleted (so far) were:

1) Suggesting that it might meet a more accurate critical appraisal if it were posted to a community of candidates rather than one comprised almost exclusively of recruiters

2) Asking for a link when told that it had in fact been posted to a career advice site and that lots of candidates had contacted the author praising the blog.

Dumb doesn't even begin to describe this kind of behaviour.

Here's a tip for all you budding HR/Recruitment bloggers.  If you can't back-up your argument, stay away from posting stuff on the Internet.

In fact better still, contact your ISP and ask them to cancel your account.

No, they're not personal attacks Sandra.  What they are is a series of descriptions of actual behaviour along a little sarcasm.

What would be offensive would be if I deleted your comment.

"Beyond offensive"!?  Wow, that's really heavy, Peter.

What is it exactly that you've found so deeply and personally offensive?

Comment by Evelyn Amaro on April 25, 2012 at 3:45pm

Sandra and Peter, I would like to thank you so much for your support. You are both spot on as to why I deleted HIS comments. Mitch began to harrass me: commenting repeatedly on my blog, looking me up on Twitter and supposedly looking up my LinkedIn account . I will not continue to play games with someone who is clearly not well. The fact that he has taken the time to write this article alone is disturbing. Mitch, please do not attempt to contact me again. Thank you.

So let me get this straight Mitch old shoe, you think that me making the sarcastic , descriptive comment that maybe there is just something about you that pisses people off is a personal attack but you calling someone dumb, commenting that their blog does not belong on this site and suggesting that they are an intellectual midget who needs to have their internet account disconnected and further they should engage their brain before they have an emotional response is not a personal attack, just an intellectual description of their behavior along with some witty sarcasm.

Let me suggest to you that i perceive this blog to be a knee jerk emotional reaction to having your comments deleted.  How dare anybody delete your arrogant offerings.  Again i would not have done so but i question the purpose of your comments as stated above.  Now Mitch "arrogant offerings" is not a personal attack at all it is just a description of actual behavior (in my opinion of course and it appears Peter's) along with a little sarcasm.

What is amazing is that on several blogs it has been mentioned that you don't seem to see your efforts to present yourself as an above it all intellectual, know it all as somehow denigrating to other people or how they do business.

Just a description of actual behavior along with a little sarcasm, no personal attack there at all sport.

I've never attempted to contact you Evelyn.  I do all my talking out in the open.  I just checked out your credentials via social media to get more information about why you might delete comments on discussion threads.

That's what us recruiters do - we get information.

As for "harrassing", I asked you a question which was could you provide a link to the career site where you said your blog also appeared.  I was curious to see what kind of response your blog got from candidates rather than recruiters, because, as I said on your blog (also deleted by you), posting about the benefits of using recruiters to recruiters was a bit like preaching to the choir.

If you think that's harrassment then you still have much to learn about being a "social media extraordinaire".

Sandra, your personal attacks were on the 'Failure' thread, not this one.  They were 'personal' in the sense that you were attacking my recruitment knowledge and/or credentials.  Nothing you say to me could be personal because you don't know me.

And I like sometimes pissing people off.  It often means I've found a hole in their argument.  Plus it can be entertaining.

Site traffic always spikes when people are arguing.

Comment by Sandra McCartt on April 25, 2012 at 4:56pm

So if nothing i say to you could be personal because i don't know you why in the name of hell do you keep throwing around "personal attack".  However i agree with you, i don't know you so it's impossible for me to attack you personally.  i can and will however attack what you write which is a whore of a different color.  On the "Failure thread" you continually postured that your business model is somehow superior.  Any time anyone is not happy to pick their business model and do it well without feeling constrained to postulate that their chosen path is better than another it just tickles the hell out of me to kick the living shit out of them, thank you very much.  Did i atttack your recruitment (i hate than damn word) knowledge or credentials.  Not one bit more than you attacked every contingency recruiter on the planet by continutally blowing your little horn that you are somehow able to provide more quality than anyone else or no one who does not do it your way should ever call themselves a headhunter.  That my friend was what i was attacking. But given your theory that i can't attack you personally because i dont know you, let's expand that , i can't possibly attack your knowledge or credentials either because all i know about them is what you choose to regurgitate ,ergo it is impossible for me to attack you in any manner.  I am just observing and giving my opinion with a little sarcasm mixed in, how quaint of me.

It has been my experience that pissing people off does not mean one has found any hole in their argument just simply that it is possible to be a troll and piss people off.  A lot of folks prefer and are trained not to engage or poke a troll who just gets their jollies by pissing people off.  I love to poke trolls.  You entertain yourself by pissing people off.  I entertain myself by poking trolls until they have made it clear just exactly what they are or they step out and admit that they just write like insulting jerks to see if they can stir up traffic.

I am not sure why you can't seem to see the link on Evelyn's blog  but it's there so toddle on over and check out her comments.  I would guess that the purpose of your comments that were deleted were in fact just to ,as you say, "piss someone off".

Preaching to the choir perhaps, but let me say this about the article she posted.  It is well writtten and certainly something that might be good info for many young recruiters starting out to refer to when asked by anyone why they should use a recruiter.  You went after her with your (in my opinion) arrogant tone.  She chose not to play.  I would not have deleted your comments but then i'm a medal bearing, award winning , world class bitch of a crusty old recruiter who has prowled these halls for over 35 years so sonny , in my book you are as green as you seem to think she is.  Run that through your superior intellect and see if that will process.

I happen to think that we (that's the royal we by the by) have a responsibility to our younger peers to encourage, correct, suggest, sometimes argue but above all not to try and beat them to death if they show their butt a little while they are learning and growing in this industry.  If you prefer to spit and hiss at them like a pit viper so be it.  Not my style.  I will go to the ground with one of my experienced peers who should know better or thinks they live in an ivory tower.  However now that we have established that you just like to piss people off to entertain yourself and i'm super busy and am now bored with troll poking i'm going back to work.

Go pull wings off of flys it would rid the world of a real pest and probably be more satisfying to you than beating on a young woman who wrote a good blog and wasn't interested in your brand of bullshit.

@Evelyn,  my suggestion for what it's worth, take the moderation off your blog, don't delete comments.  Just let it roll.  If the trolls come at you either ignore them or just wait a minute and some old crusty recruiter will get a gut full of it and take care of it for you.  Nobody gets more support than a lovely young woman who is harrassed by a troll who just wants to piss people off.

Comment by Mitch Sullivan on April 26, 2012 at 1:22am

So you agree with me then Sandra, but you just don't like my style?  I can live with that.  Thanks.

Evelyn, I look forward to you unmoderating your blog so we can all get back to discussing the merits of the benefits of recruiters. Hopefully you've now seen how dumb deleting people's comments is.

In the meantime, could you also provide a link to the career site you said you'd posted it to?  Thanks.

Excellent. I'm glad we got that cleared up.

Peter you just called Cora an idiot on Evie's post.  Pot Kettle Black. .  .

This site has apparently gone to showing candidates how to work with recruiters than Recruiting best practices.  I for one don't even come here anymore.

Comment by Sandra McCartt on May 1, 2012 at 4:55pm

@ Nate, you know i love you but Peter's comment was far from PKB.  Cora publically accused someone of actionable breaking of the law with no proof.  In writing and in public.  Now it probably of course won't but Cora put herself in a potential position to possibly catch a libel suit which is idiotic.  It's one thing to get into a bout of verbal fisticuffs but it's very much different to accuse someone of breaking the law by commiting plagiarism.  Truth would be a total defense but if there ain't no truth in it we hit ourselves with the idiot stick if make that kind of accusation.
