Why using pre-recorded interviewing is more efficient than using Skype...

In recent times Skype has been used to hire new employees. In fact there is now a verb called 'Skyping' and  many recruiters prefer using Skype to replace first round interviews.

However, even with all the benefits of Skype, it is only really effective for the second round of interviews. If you, (like most companies) want to save more time and money on the recruitment process, then pre-recorded interviews are key.

So, why does a pre-recorded video interview have more benefits than a Skype interview?

  • When you're using a video interview with pre-recorded solutions, you will record the questions on a one time only basis, yet you can send the link to as many candidates as you like. Then you can screen all applicants and shortlist the right candidates and invite them to a final stage, face-to-face interview or even a live interview via Skype. Effectively Saving you time and money.
  • Scheduling problems are a thing of the past. Have you ever tried organising interviews with candidates that some can't even attend? With pre-recorded video interviews, recruiters set the questions once only, then send out a link and candidates complete them at a time that suits them.
  • When using pre-recorded interviewing, you have the ability to share and review applicants with colleagues. Getting the right candidate in front of the hiring manager sooner. Again, dramatically saving you time spent searching for that ideal candidate.

Great article Matt! Something else to add to your article is that with Skype you have to give our a user name. Giving out this personal info could be a hazard if the candidate gave your username out to others, or continued contacting you on it. Skype does not offer the security an online interviewing platform has. If using video interviewing, candidates just receive a link. Also with video interviews you have the option of doing a live or a recorded interview. I totally agree with you about the scheduling. Some companies have their very own auto-scheduler which allows allows employers to set their available time slots and applicants can select which one works for them. A calendar reminder is sent and a text message reminder is sent the morning of the interview. Glad you see the benefits though, a solid article Matthew!
