All this talk about sourcing....a morning rant.

"Our world" is consumed with sourcing.  More to the point - it seems as if the only matter of importance is sourcing with social media.  Faux careers are being made daily by pumping out the latest white paper, infographic or conference keynote on how to approach your "social" strategy.

Feel free to source/recruit however you want.  I don't really find it that difficult in most cases.  To me it's alot of talk about nothing.

Wanna know where to spend your time?  Client development.  You can have all the top talent knocking your door down, but if you don't have a client - who cares?

Blog traffic? RT's? Facebook Likes?  So what?!?  None of that matters if you don't have a customer ready to pay your invoice.  And my guess is - your customer couldn't care less where you dig up your candidate.  They just want the job filled.

Get on the phone and connect with someone who needs to hire.

I hear you Jerry.  You are obviously at the top of your game.  I think social media can be a catalyst to help your business, but at the end of the day, you are correct.  Blog Traffic, RT, Facebook likes don't pay the bills if you don't do anything to help drive revenue.  It can however help promote your company and give you a tad bit of credibility.  If you already have the credibility, then... you already said it.

Thanks Will - though I feel I should correct your assumption.  I must admit I am nowhere near the top of my game.  I just don't have the energy any more.  I'm happy in the 80-85% of my game range. Still leaves plenty of free time.  :)

You still have to have time for the fishing holes Jerry!

I think I source all the time as a recruiter, right? Although "SM" is not the place I do most of it. I call people - clients, candidates, etc. and keep going until I can find the candidates I need.

And you're so right, Jerry - client development is key to me. Otherwise I have no need to source anywhere. I did get 3 new clients from Google searches they did, but no idea why I came up in the top of any search and still don't feel any need to take up any offers for SEO optimization.
