Will Facebook Replace LinkedIn?

According to The Next Web, Facebook has started rolling out a new “Professional Skills” section to all users. This addition will be below the “Work and Education” section on profiles. When a user is adding skills, skills will be auto suggested in the same functionality as when you’re typing in the search bar of Facebook. Sources online indicate users have to select from a predefined set of options.

These professional skills are searchable with the Graph Search, making it even easier for recruiters to find candidates with particular skills. As shown below, this search is not currently supported on their site but it seems that it’s only a matter of time until it will be.

This change appears to be another feature aimed at keeping traffic on Facebook and away from LinkedIn but will candidates be ok with an even larger blur between their personal and professional life and take advantage of this? We’ll have to wait and see.

There’s no denying that LinkedIn is the number one professional network online but they can’t become complacent. It doesn’t appear that they are either, having recently announced an additional $1.2 billion shares of stock.

Way more powerful with services and features for Recruiters that Facebook hasn't even thought about, yet has done.

Good way to put it, Richard.

LinkedIn does offer more powerful features and professionals to connect with than Facebook that make it more valuable but it's interesting to keep an eye on what Facebook is doing that may swing the pendulum.

Adults use fb for fun/play and younger people are leaving fb for Instagram and Twitter. If they feel obligated, we may see them on LI, but probably not as much as we see the 30 - 60 ish age group.

Either way, both platforms are optional so neither is comprehensive. There are many great companies and people still not found on LI. Many successful people.
