Here are some key pain points we've heard of from recruiters and HR managers who don’t use any recruitment software. Are we missing any??

Resumes

  • Resumes in multiple computers in shared / email folders so can’t do a universal search
  • Low security – anyone can delete, forward, or share resumes
  • Data loss – hard disk crash, virus, malware
  • Infrequent data backups
  • Missed candidates – unread, partially read, or not understood resumes
  • No file versioning or file naming standards
  • Same resume could be in multiple folders and you may pick the wrong one

Reports

  • Reports need to be created manually either daily or weekly – time consuming
  • Accuracy not 100%
  • Historical comparisons are tough to do
  • Reports are limited in their use and mostly quantitative

Clients

  • No proper tracking of client conversion rates (e.g. from leads to proposals)
  • Contract expiry dates get missed resulting in delayed or non-payment
  • Manual linking of clients, positions, and recruiters needs to be done

Positions

  • Need to create multiple Excel sheets to track candidates from shortlisted to join stages
  • No clear metrics on resume acceptance / rejection rates by client, position, or recruiter
  • Loss of potential revenue by not identifying the right candidate at the right time
  • No automated reminders or alerts

Thanks, Alok.  Thisis good. It'salso important to remember the pain points of inefficient, over-complicated- non-intuitive, ATS...

Why anyone would not use an ATS is beyond me in these days and times. There are even decent ATSs which are free! I would love to speak with the HR managers in order to help them select an ATS which works for their firm/environment.

@Steven, your point is well noted. However in many places in Asia, like in India, recruiters are still dependent on Excel sheets and have not adopted an ATS for various reasons - perhaps we can write a separate blog post on that.

@Steven, or it is a very small company with an office assistant and NOT an HR/Recruiting professional who doesn't know the first thing about ATSs.
