In recruiting, time is of the utmost importance. It is what I tell my clients and my candidates that I won’t waste, and that I’ll respect their time throughout the process as we move to making a placement. However, it seems that both candidates and client companies forget this when it’s time for a telephone screen. Recently I’ve had a rash of no calls from clients and missed calls by candidate requiring us to reschedule it for some later date and not only causing a delay in the process, but also raising questions and concerns from the other party about interest and sincerity.

Maybe I’m off base, maybe it’s just me, but it seems that there is a more cavalier attitude to these phone screens. Clearly it seems that it’s just another meeting on their Outlook calendar and if they can’t make it, then it’s no big deal. Well I’m hear to say it is a big deal, especially if it costs you the job you want or the candidate that you need.

You're right on Bill. It's the first introduction you have to the company, and that the company has to their candidates. Who can afford to be cavalier about that?
