Job Search: What Your Smile Can Say in a Job Interview

It's been said and sung before. You're never fully dressed without a smile. The right smile can communicate so much. When it's time for a job interview, you need to make sure your smile is amazing for a number of reasons.

1. Confidence

Confidence is contagious, enthralling and inspiring. Who wouldn't want more of that type of energy in a workplace? During interviews, most people are really nervous and anxious.

Taking the time to take a deep breath and smile will instantly put you at ease and showcase a certain level of confidence. When you're confident going into an interview, this tells the interviewer that you're confident that you can do the job. When you can do the job well, everyone wins.

2. Options

When a person comes into a room, they usually have a certain energy. When you're coming in for a job interview, your body language and aura might communicate desperation. Even if you are desperate, it's best to not show it.

Smiling exudes a certain self-assurance and communicates that you have options. There's nothing like working with a person who wants to be there versus a person who was desperate and took anything they could get because they needed money.

3. Positivity

Most people love to be around people who are upbeat and consistently positive. No, this doesn't mean that you might have a bad day and be a little down. However, it's important to have a good level of emotional intelligence and control over your emotions.

One of the best things to do is smile. When you smile, it naturally helps you move toward a more positive mood. The next time you're upset, break out your biggest smile. It may feel inauthentic or forced, but after a few minutes, you'll feel better.

4. Attractiveness

Let's be frank. People love beauty. While beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, there's something about a certain level of confidence that's generally attractive. When you're working in a business setting, you're representing the company. Most business owners want people who will represent the company well.

A beautiful smile communicates that you take care of yourself, maintain a certain level of grooming and take care of your teeth. If you don't feel like your smile is beautiful, this can have a direct impact on what your face communicates to others when you enter a room. Consider getting dental work from a professional like Kenneth Schweizer DDS PA so that you can put your best face forward.

While some may suggest that looks aren't that important, they do have an impact on your overall life. It doesn't matter what size, shape or color you are. When you smile, you'll instantly exude a positive and welcoming vibe.
