The Client Side - The Malaise Continues

It's tough out there folks and there is no hiding from it. We have seen things revert to where they were in the fall with positions melting away. Somebody tweeted a question this morning asking for what industries or jobs are still in high need and in need of recruiting assistance. We have about 1/4 of the jobs that we had a year and two years ago so while things are way down, we do still have jobs. We even had a client this week who builds bridges pull their positions after the stimulus package was signed in order to figure out the impact that the package is going to have. This may turn to a big positive quickly for building/construction/infrastructure type companies with all the money going into those areas, but right now the level of fear and uncertainty is very very high. The areas we have strong needs in are:

Defense
Aerospace
Environmental Consulting
Engineering - Piping and Large Industrial

If anyone would like to chime in, I'd love to hear what areas anyone is seeing a strong need for hiring and outside recruiting in.

I don't have the answer to that EXACTLY, but I certainly agree with what you are saying.

Where I'm living the two big markets that are going to continue to require staffing are the financial sectors and medical. Medical especially is a market that there is always going to be a need for. Granted the Canadian economy has not been hit as hard as the USA where our large banks have not closed, but our national banks are looking to positions themselves positively post recession so our large banks are still hiring (both contract and perm).

Otherwise I would suggest firms try to find niche markets that are growing to grow within the current economic downturn. Companies that create products which save organizations money should continue to grow during a recession.

Just my thoughts! Good post!
