Yesterday, I drove for ten hours with three of my children to join all of my siblings, my mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins from my mother's side of the family for a family reunion.  While the drive was amazing with the beauty we drove through incredible, the length became tedious and lonely for me as my children seemed to sleep for hours at a time..., ahh - a mother's love.

We were about two hours from our destination, when we noticed some crazy cloud patterns and the wind seemed to change a bit.  We were driving into a storm, and it was unavoidable.  For a brief moment, I felt apprehension.  My kids saw the downpour ahead of us and seemed a bit excited.  That is not exactly what I was feeling.  The clouds seemd to cut in and out and we could see streaming rain ahead.

The best way for me to get through it was to just drive, so I did.  The rain fell hard, quickly washing away the dirt from the road.  The wipers seemd to take a few minutes to adjust to their task before they actually started working.  I felt a bit like Eyeore, with a gloomy cloud just over me.  There was sunshine and beautiful mountians all around us... The cloud seemed to move with us and the harder I pushed forward, the harder the rain fell.

We were finally able to pull away but there was a moment when I felt like I was running on ice, getting no traction, making no headway.  Sounds like my life, at times.  Throughout our days, personally and through our work, we face clouds or trouble that just seems to hang... The biz cards weren't right, the door was hung incorrectly, the candidate didn't call back or they lied on their resume, the potential client went with a different firm.

Sometimes, the only thing that gets you through is just pushing ahead.  One of my favorite Winston Churchill quotes is "If you are going through hell, keep going."   Don't stop.  My cousin just said, "Don't park."  Good advice.
