I have seen many people who take a few classes in Internet sourcing, bring home cheatsheets and then get stuck trying to do their own searches... In January, I will be running a class where I hope to get these people going. I think that this new approach would make a difference for many. This will be a guided hands-on practice in Boolean searches. We will be creating custom Boolean strings for all participants and exploring Boolean syntax and the process of Boolean search as we run these real-life searches. The class is online-based and will not have any specific hours. It starts on January 5th and runs till February 4th, 2009. This is a paid class. More info can be found here:

I am responding to some questions I have received in the last couple of days.

1) What are the time, frequency and format of the sessions?

The group will not have any specific hours set, so no worries about your schedule in January. It will be ongoing, with activity every day over a period of one month (1/5-2/4). You can participate as much or as little as you like on any given day. The format is an online forum. It's OK to join a few days late.

If you participate, we will definitely work on *your* typical searches. I will suggest Boolean strings and other participants will add suggestions, comment and ask questions. This will be done for every participant.

We will have a chat function so if several if us are online we'll be able to use it.

2) Will other people have access to the class?

No, only participants will have password-protected access.

3) I am a beginner. Will I benefit?

Yes, the group is for beginners, though non-beginners will benefit as well. (We already have several experienced people join.) If you can do some searches on Google you are "qualified" and are very welcome to join.

4) Where can I find additional information?

Here is a description posted on my blog:

Here's a one page brochure:
