CREDIT to
Jayson Seymour for apprising me of the following:
A recent Charlie Rose interview with Chris Dewolf & Tom Anderson, the founders of My Space, discussed their "invention" and their thoughts on its evolutionary future versus the competition and society's acceptance of web based social networks.
Some cryptic notes from the interview:
Charlie Rose:
"Tell me why this medium is so compelling and useful."
Tom/Chris
"I can get to know you very quickly."
"Your profile is an online representation of you."
In Jayson's interpretation, by "knowing you" one can gather a community and get down to real communication really fast.
The founders also commented:
"We overlooked the medium and small businesses in our product design..we're developing new utilities so they can take advantage of the ability to access the same scope of customer contact as large corporations."
WOW - Will we be ready to do this?
More facts about My Space:
There were 120mm visits (last month?)
My Space demographics overlay the current census data
65% of MS users are also Facebook users
There are 10mm paying users of World of Warcraft which Tom constantly referenced as a "social network" for social interaction.
Jayson asks:
SO when does business interactions supersede social interactions - what's the difference between doing business on the golf course and during a WOW game?
How can we better understand what fabric is being woven with all this "social" interaction?
How can we drive our own revenues with the exposure we get on social networks?
"As Tuesday's discussion indicated it's still new....it's still evolving.... and no one yet has the command of the technology which must in some fashion create a level playing field for the rest of us." ~ Jayson Seymour
THIS will be the subject of discussion in MagicMethod's Thursday Phone Sourcing Classroom Chat. We hope to see you
in class at noon (EST)!
