Labor Day. Some would say it is just another device used by Americans to get out of working, again. The United States recognizes Labor Day as a national holiday and all government offices and schools are closed for the first Monday every September. Most corporate offices take advantage of the fact that post offices will be closed and they keep their own doors locked, as well.

However, if you are a retailer of any kind, Labor Day is one of the busiest days of the year, for if you aren't making money, surely you must be spending it, right? Boy, someone was thinking! Labor Day Sales abound as the corporate world sleeps. I guess we shall see how well the economy is rebounding once the final weekend consumer index is tallied. A report worth reading, I'm sure.

Interestingly enough, this American holiday originated in Toronto, Canada. Yep, thanks Canada. It was instilled to celebrate a trade union act way back in the late 1800s. I think there was a celebratory parade every year in Canada that inspired a New Yorker to start the practice and recognition in America. Another fact: Labor Day weekend marks the official start of the NFL season. Can I just say "Thank you, Canada" ? There is, indeed, a special place in my heart for football uniform pants. I'll just leave it at that.

While we can definitely credit Toronto for one more day off in America - Labor Day, there is another event that was started in this fair Canadian city that must also be well-noted, especially here on these pages. I know you know what I am talking about, none other than RecruitFest!

September 23 and 24 marks the second yearly, every twelve months, annual, once-a-year, official, authorized, certified UnConference. And since this event is all about UnStructure, I am guessing it will be very different from last year. However, what will be the same is the importance and after-effect of said event. You will be kept posted. Life-changing - and therefore, subject to documentation. Thank goodness...

Hope to see you there!
