April 1st Proclaimed Zero Unemployment Day – No Foolin’

I am happy to be a part of this grassroots movement with a hope of changing perceptions as well as the face of recruiting.  Not that I don’t like its current face, but what I have discovered over the last several years is that there is a severe and wide disconnect – a gap – between what a recruiter really is and what a jobseeker thinks a recruiter is.

Here are a few things to think about...,  According to recent statistics, there are over three million jobs available – three million openings – three million vacancies – three million positions advertised in the United States right now, currently, at this time, TODAY.  And yet?  And yet, unemployment still totters, leaning toward 9%.  Something is broken.  And I think it is that base understanding – the gap.  There are jobseekers’ groups popping up everywhere, all over the country.  I have personal friends that manage their own groups, I have done so myself.

A good friend of mine, Jessica Miller-Merrell – who, by the way, is the Queen of making anything unofficial more successful than had it been actually official – has proclaimed today, April 1st the unofficial “Zero Unemployment Day.”  And I gladly join in her proclamation.  I now declare Bonus Track officially part of this movement – ‘cause I can say “official” – Bonus Track is mine!

Smartrecruiters’ CEO, Jerome Ternynck unites author, Miller-Merrell to virtually traipse across the country and invade all social media to “make the word heard.”  The Zero Unemployment Movement is interesting because it attacks the cause, instead of just talking about the response to the cause. And what better way to get a conversation going than to use the business conversation tool of today – social media.

Throughout the blog-o-sphere and various social media venues, videos, blogs, and questions will be posted to draw attention to this movement.  Be a part of it.  Drive traffic to it by commenting and reposting.  YouTube, Twitter (#ZeroUE), LinkedIn, BranchOut, Quora, FourSquare, Gowalla are all venues to use and abuse in making this viral.  You can start by visiting the Facebook Fan Page for the Zero Unemployment Movement.  Come on – how hard is it?  You know you’re going to be on Facebook today anyway… Like it!  www.facebook.com/zerounemployment
