Interviewing out of state candidates via Skype

Hi folks,

I'm interested to get your thoughts on conducting panel interviews via Skype for out of state candidates.  We spend the money on airfare, car rental and hotel stays.  It's also time consuming for the candidate along with the added stress of the unexpected (flight delays, etc.).

Can you share any of your own experiences or knowledge of companies who might be migrating down the Skype road for preliminary interviews?  Do you think it's a good idea?
