Hi everybody! Let's list our best candidate excuses for no-showing the interview!

1. The infamous train strike/crash/disappearance that never appears in any news reports.
2. "I had nothing to wear"
3. "My boss told me not to" (I kid thee not)
4. Our dear old friend the "tried to call you but my cell phone blah blah blah"
5. Couldn't find the building

Come on folks, there must be many more, I know you want to rant!

I had a candidate email me that he was at baseball tryouts for his son the night before, and he was hit in the face with a bat. He had to go in for surgery and would be unable to make our phone interview.
I remembered a friend of mine said that her candidate didn't go the interview because the candidate didn't have anything to wear- meaning the candidate didn't go shopping to find
a new interview suit. You know, the story about a closet full of clothes ..
My candidate said - He had to shift the home as his contract was ending, and he din know this upto last day when confirmed the interview.

One more bad and embrassing experience : One of my candidate made an excuse for toilet and ran away from client place while taking a written test and strange he took the test copy with him.
"my mother was sick" (candidate was a 32 year old man living with mom)

"my toddler hid my car keys" (candidate was a new mother)
Well I have heard my colleague speaking about her candidate, he said, he just getting married...

After reading all the replies, i wanna share two of my experiences.

2. I spoke to a candidate just one hour before the interview, he said "i`m on the way, i`m taking that right turn near to that big building, i`ll call you once i reach near to your office" He never reached our office

AND THE GREAT ONE

1. We hav scheduled a candidate, it was a re-schedule first time, second time, when we called him, one of his friends attended the call and said "Sorry sir, he had an accident yesterday and he passed away yesterday night" But the funniest part is we spoke to the candidate next day. :)

Cheers

Ok I have one. We had a candidate that was on his way to his second interview when we got a call from him, he was in the car driving, when all of a sudden he had an epiphany...."God told him not to take the job!".
Here is some feedback on a candidate interview from last year, thankfully I am well established with the company and this did not have a negative impact. But this
further re-enforces my rule that I much prefer to work with candidates with Bachelor Degree as a minimum education requirement.

Hi Jason,

We are not interested in David for QC Inspector and have moved forward with another candidate. I would like to share a few of our reasons for not bringing David on board.

• Canceled original interview stating he could not get away from work
• Rescheduled for 6:30 a.m. on 7/12/07 so he could get to work early
• He showed up 10 minutes late
• Paperwork was not complete
• Text messaged on his phone when Jerry got a call during the interview
• Left the interview to answer a phone call
• Was twirling in his chair during interview

Just thought you might want this feedback.
"you never gave me the directions to the hospital". (this candiate lived in the same city as the large city hospital)
