So, how long have you been recruiting?  Actual recruiting?  I am proud to say I started in 1996.  Next?

98 - I was temping in a Robert Half office and every day someone went home crying. I said "hell no not for me!" and not long after that was the sole recruiter for a small niche staffing office... I would have to beg my boss for an hour of computer time to write up an ad to fax into the Seattle Times so I could advertise for drivers wanting to deliver auto parts in their own vehicles. Sounds ridiculous looking back on it but I hired about 10 people a week. Turnover was a bitch. :)

1995.  A lot has changed since then.

I started in 1998 for a firm as an recruiter's assistant.  My job was to call all the collected resumes and update their status on paper files.  There was no computer on my desk and I have no  company email address.

Yeah in 1996 my first day was training.  My second through 30th was call this stack of inactive candidates and get them active!  That was called onboarding but was much more like water boarding.
