Recruiting for the right candidate for the right company is still a challenge even in this economic downturn. For an example, a couple of months ago, I was
searching for a sales administrator. Now this title can be confusing but it’s actually
an administrative assistant position working in a sales department.

After I had posted the position online, the next day there were one hundred resumes waiting for me in my email inbox the next morning. I was overwhelmed at first –
I was still waiting for my cup of coffee.

So I sat down and one by one, I went through the resumes. The first ten resumes were
candidates who did not read the job description. As the coffee brewed in the background,
I went on to the next ten resumes, and the results were the same. These resumes were
from sales managers to outsides sales reps.

Oh, I was so glad I had poured the coffee in my favorite cup. I closed my eyes and took
the first sip. Wow, it was strong and it made me feel alive. After a few moments, I went
back to my inbox and started looking at the next ten resumes.

To make this story short, I only kept ten resumes. For the other ninety resumes, I did
not replied. I didn’t want to tell them that they had applied for the wrong job. I closed
the position after going through the one hundred resumes.

Of the ten resumes that were accepted, I chose five to contact since they were the most in line to what I was searching for. After all that, the company decided to put the position was put on hold since they were unsure of economic future. So the moral to this story is while we are searching for the right candidate, there are things that are out of out of our control, but we keep on working on find the right candidate for the other clients we have.
