With a Mission, a Vision and a lot of hard work, anything is possible. The man went from a junior senator to the President. Whether you voted for him or not, like him or not, are a republican, democrat or a bi partisan you can not deny that the man had a plan, executed that plan without backing down and won the race.

When I read Obama’s book I was under the impression that the man clearly had participated in some kind of transformational course work, maybe Lifespring, maybe Landmark, maybe Jack Canfield’s BTS. Although it does not really matter where he got his training, or his philosophies what matters is that he was unflappable in his quest for achieving his goals.

We all can and should learn from this. Put away your feelings of elation or aggravation and start to assess what he did to win this race. He published a couple books. He took big risks. He had a compelling message that many in the beginning did not listen to. He stayed strong and focused in the face of objection and outright rejection. He used the Internet and social networking. He used grass roots public relations and sales efforts. He knocked on doors and made cold calls. He stayed true to his integrity and his word about keeping the campaign clean. Yes he slipped up a few times, as any human being would, and then he cleaned it up, restored his integrity and got back on the horse.

What if we could all use these traits of Obama’s in our quest to achieve our dreams and goals? Some of us area facing some major self or career doubt right now. Some of us are dumb struck about the world and the state of the economy. Some of us are afraid to make a move right now, just in case it gets worse. Some of us are moving forward with a pensive, concerned approach. Some of us are staying the course, not listening to the bad news, not taking in what the nay-sayers and doubters say, but thanking them for sharing. Some of us are kicking butt and taking names. I supposed it is all a choice of whom you are going to be in the face of the world coming at you.

I myself am in the full throws of a start up. To keep it simple my company is a Human Capital Consulting firm specializing in Top Grading and Succession Planning. Everyday I hear people tell me the reasons why I should put my head in the sand or go back into running a recruiting desk. Everyday I also hear people say, thank you, my business needs the training you are offering and this is the piece that will differentiate my service. Everyday I hear companies asking me how they can afford to hire the people they need to hire while still spending money they need to develop the emerging leaders for the succession plan. Everyday I get asked questions about a scientific and performance based system for conducting lay offs and downsizing. For as many people that tell me there is no use for my services there are just as many that are paying me to train them or to solve their problem on corporate level. The main point of all of this is that everyone has his or her own opinion about what is hot and needed and what is not. I am grateful that I was raised with tenacity, determination and a strong will. Thank you to my mother and father for that.

Regardless of your recruiting niche or service, my advice to you is to set your goals, make them big, review them every day, and stay true to the course. In any economy, a human being with a decent value proposition and a good service, who is in action, doing the right things, with the right attitude……will succeed.

First and foremost, congratulations on pursuing your venture. I have run my own business in the past and suspect I will do so again at some point in the future. It is a wild ride to be sure.

Your points are spot on. Craft your vision - Create an executable plan to achieve that vision - Execute the plan with a passion, determination and tenacity that is unshakable by even the most committed of nay-sayers. And keep your plan flexible but true. By the way, these elements hold true whether you are running your own business or looking to excel in the role you are in within a company.
