We twitter and blog for a variety of reasons, but mostly to spread the word about our job board for students, myfirstpaycheck.com.

One of the great things about twitter is the search functionality. We regularly use http://search.twitter.com/ to find out when users are talking about certain keywords (for us, summer jobs, camp jobs, resumes, etc.) and respond to them. It's a cheap and easy way of reaching out to a niche market that is interested in our market.
