Do you need Search Engine Optimization for a Recruiting website?

In this article: Setting a Website for Your Business: Key Points

I talk about setting up a recruiting site. One of my points is that you do not need SEO for a simple site as long as you make sure your job postings are found. Please review the post and let me know if you agree with this approach. (I'm talking about a new or an updated site for an independent recruiter or a small recruiting business; I am trying to list the minimal efforts to have a website up and running).

(Please also note that this post is my entry for the Talent Buzz blog post contest that I won the last time and am hoping to win again. The rules are here, and I believe that you can still enter the contest.)

Thanks,
Irina

If you are going to have a web site, why not optimize it? It is simple and free to do, so why not take a little extra time to make sure your web site gets found? Simple tweaks can make a big difference. One of the easiest things to do is to have a blog page and update it often with new search information. Frequent new content on a blog, can mean better search results for your site. I am not an expert on SEO by any means, but a quick google search will result in loads of free info, so that your only investment is the time it takes to add some keywords to your site.

Pam,

Yes. If it's quick and easy, sure, why not. However,

Can you imagine a scenario when a company (an internal recruiter, HR, or a hiring manager) runs across an independent recruiter's website (just from a search on Google on some keywords) and calls that recruiter up wanting to work with them? I can hardly imagine that.

Irina,

No, I don't see that happening. But, I can tell you from experience that it's the candidates who will find you from the google searches, and that's the key reason to optimize your site. :)
