Design the Right Approach to Career Surfing on the Web

Being able to utilize the internet in one’s career is a necessity in almost every field.

Architects are finding that they too must become adept at surfing the web for the right tools to help their careers.

Whether they are looking for new jobs or new resources for their current positions, the internet brings a wealth of information that the savvy architect and those in many other fields can use.

Finding the Right Job

While you can peruse job boards on Indeed.com, Monster.com and many other general job sites, you will also want to check out job listings on boards designed exclusively for architects and engineering.

The AIA Career Center is one such site that allows you to upload your resume and receive alerts about job listings.

Many other sites are available and it is important to know which ones have the most to offer for your needs. Some sites allow you to showcase your work and provide a valuable link that you can add to your online profile.

The key to being successful on these job boards is getting to know the sites and those who frequent them.

Instead of trying to post or watch numerous sites, it is better to focus on one or two and find out how to excel.

Sites to Enhance Your Work

Perhaps you already have your dream job and just want to enhance your efforts. You can find many websites or online software that can help make your work easier or stand out more.

For instance, the article “5 Websites for Architects That Wear Many Hats”, mentions Adobe Color CC as a free tool that can help you create color themes.

In general, Adobe offers a variety of products to enhance your creativity and makes it easier to get down on screen what you have inside your head. The company is also always coming out with new products that you can learn and use to improve your skills.

CreativeCommons is another site that can assist you in creating presentations for clients. Visual aids such as images can often get a point across better than words alone.

The images with CreativeCommons can be free and include images from other sources so you don't spend all of your time searching.

Collaboration

The era of an architect designing something from start to finish alone is gone.

Today is all about collaboration and it may be that a group of architects and other team members design a project together. To provide for collaboration that is successful and timely, you need the right software or programs.

With more data and projects moving to the cloud, people can work on tasks at the same time even from multiple locations.

AutoDesk is just one example of a company that provides that collaborative environment through its products.

Architects who want to be competitive and relevant in today's world must know how to use the internet to find jobs, to create outstanding projects and to work as part of a team.

Even if you’re not in the architectural field, properly utilizing the internet in your job search is a necessity, not an option.
