I attended a Monster seminar about 4 years ago and remember in one of the books they gave us (I unfortunately tossed mine in a recent move) there was a website you could view (for free, this was not a paid service) where announcements were made on which companies were laying people off.
Does anyone know what that site is? Or if there is a similar site I could view that lists layoffs?
I would also suggest looking at outplacement firms since that is what they deal with specifically are people laid off. This should give you plenty of options to look at. (Lee Hecht Harrison or Drake Beam Morin - do a search for outplacement firms and you will get some local and regional ones too) I contact these directly, they are there to help people find work so they usually are helpful in networking your needs to the candidates, if they are not, I suggest calling in directly to the firms that are laying off as well to grab the folks that haven't been given their pink slips yet, but are on the edge because their fellow employees did. I find a lot of these people are relieved to hear there are opportunities out there for them to consider and they are usually very helpful in networking you to other people. ( I usually have some different opportunities I'm working on like Engineering or technology or Business Analysts. Don't forget to ask them if they can refer someone in another department that might be looking, you could easily expand your portfolio and do some splits if you don't have positions in areas specifically referred to)
