I wanted to reach out to you all to pick your brains on what kind of efforts you employ in terms of recruiting. I'm looking for some really different ideas, and what better place to search than with other recruiters.
Currently, I use the regular mediums like Newspaper Ads, word-of-mouth, employee referral programs, social networking medias like Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin etc, but really looking for other ideas.

Not sure what your situation is there in New Castle, but if it were me doing financial recruiting here in Chicago, I'd be down in the financial district during happy hour at least once a week if not more.

I've noticed over the years that recruiters have a strong habit of spending most of their time hanging out with other recruiters, which is great, but only if you're actually recruiting recruiters!

Now, I love my recruiting friends as much as the next guy, but I have to spend time with my talent pool. I attend more software User Group meetings(be glad you don't have to), tech seminars and social time with my information technology talent pool than any recruiter I know. I get to observe them in social settings, get to know who the players ,hustlers and up-and-comers are and get to know who has good and bad reputations among their professional peers. That's a LOT of information that would be nearly impossible to get through any other means.

Before long, you have a bunch of solid, influential friends within your talent pool and you get a lot of referrals through the connections you make. It pays to be the first name that comes to mind when someone begins to think about making a move... and it pays even better when you're on a first-name basis and your number is already in their cell phone!
I work for a national recruitment advertising/employee communications company. We assist with many interactive recruiting efforts including Pay Per Click, email blasts (through HotJobs Direct, etc), career microsites, etc.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have also done pizza box tops and restaurant/restroom advertising (both can be targeted by demographics), movie theatre, etc. One client frequently hosts in-house job fairs and has local radio stations broadcast during their events. I have helped this same client with celebrity autograph signings (by a Denver Broncos player) at a job fair.

I personally love networking and referral programs. Do you have success with your social networking? There are many industry specific sites popping up. And I noticed you mentioned employee referral programs - we have had great success bringing our client's referral programs online, completely automated and no paperwork.

I do like your idea in regards to finding out the ompanies that are downsizing. How do you obtain that information? Is there a specific search or just by reading the newspaper.
Why didn't I EVER think of that? How clever. I'm going to definitely share these ideas with my manager. Thanks a whole bunch.
I did something similar on a remote/phone project while staffing a call center for a managed healthcare/pharma client in Plano, TX. While sourcing & screening candidates, I discovered an inordinate amount from one specific company. Turns out they have rolling layoffs, based not upon merit. When a major client contract ended, they'd lay off everyone who worked on that contract. In other words, they make a practice of throwing away babies with their bathwater!

Within a week, I had made a value proposition to management at this company to take their top 15-20% from every layoff, write them letters of recommendation and PAY them to come down to my client and test/interview before their end date even occurred. They now save a considerable amount on unemployment comp claims and both companies are very happy with their results.

One might argue that I put myself out of a job, but... the recommendations and referrals that both companies give me more than make up for it.
I am looking to bring on other recruiters. The company pays a 50% comm. But more importantly I have not found one negative thing with the company.
