Let me start by saying not everyone should be on their own but some should have gone independent a long time ago! But fear is a motivating factor that hinders many. What's worse is when employers feed your fear!
MISCONCEPTIONS
1) Recruiting on your own is lonely..
This often comes from company owners who don't want to you leave so they convince you will die without the camaraderie of your fellow worker bees.
Truth: It's your choice how connected you want to be! work from a coffee shop at times, library, private office, share space with another recruiter or rent from an office in a building. Stay connected via blogs, lunch meetings and webinars with other recruiters. It's unending the FREE support!!!
2) You don't have the support we offer in technology...
Once again, someone trying to scare you into believing they have the corner on support and technology. Yes they may have paid thousands for Database, Marketing lists, Phone systems etc.. But know this.. A Large firm pays out the wazoo for so much that an independent won't want nor even needs! You also will find that you can get allot for free and allot for a discounted price.
When you are on your won you will use technology that works and throw away the rest. You will not use forced technology but will customize it for yourself. ITS different when your the administrator for your technology for your dig, for your desk without the worry of making it work for the general population.
3) Clients don't want to work with someone in there bedroom or back office. They want a brand name company!
Not true..!!! 99% Don't CARE.. You know what they care about..? FILL THERE JOBS!!!!
They have an opening and they are willing to send a check the person who FILLS THE JOB.
Deliver results build your own reputation.. Also Here's a secret that's not really a secret. Your clients do business with YOU not your company.
4) IT"S HARD TO MAKE IT!!!! No Draw!!!!
Let me smash this comment simply by stating you need to bill nearly 50% of what you bill to earn the SAME money on your own. If you take 20k to the bank, an estimated 35% goes to taxes the rest you pocket.. so you do the math.. How many a yr do you need to earn the same. How much more will you make if you bill the same?
5) I depend on the office dynamics, meetings, accountability my boss provides...
I get it! But how valuable is this really? Are you learning, becoming a better recruiter? or are you maintaining the status quo. Or are the meetings designed for the newest recruiter. Are the meetings, reviews, training sessions, morning meetings, hotsheet reviews all the same?
I need 12 months of living expenses to be safe right? I need all ducks to be in a row first!
You will find that on your own produced an internal motivation that you may have never had previously. 3 months of money is ok, 6 months is better, 12 months is not necessary for most.
Benefits.. I cannot give them up..Nor can I afford them on my own..
Have you looked at how much you pay now? It's already incredibly expensive to work at a firm who takes 50% or your billing, Uncle sam takes his cut, then you get those mediocre extremely expensive benefits. They are not that good and not much less then you will pay on your own.
ARE YOU WORKING TO PLEASE YOUR BOSS?
ARE YOU BREAKING EVEN IN YOUR DRAW AND COMMISSION?
ARE YOU HERO ONE MONTH AND A ZERO THE NEXT INT HE OFFICE?
ARE YOU TIRED OF THE OFFICE POLITICS?
ARE YOU TIRED OF THE STRANGE BOSS TACTICS TO GET YOU TO DO MORE?
