I'm a former agency recruiter with 12 years background and have recently gone out on my own. I specialize in Attorney/Law Firm placement.
How have changes in technology adjusted your initial recruiting contact efforts? Does voicemail remain a strong option? I always prefer to have a direct conversation but in an effort to initiate contact does anyone actually listen to voicemail anymore? Or are contacts via Linkedin and/or direct email more effective?
I appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!

Erin,
I don't really know the answer to your question but I now leave a message on their voice mail and follow with an email refering to my recent voice mail. Before I did neither and would call back again and again, I soon realized that some people always have their voice mail on and dont respond I have been calling somone for 21/2 years and have still not spoken to them and that is using both methods, I think I will take the hint.
I would, like you, be interested to hear what others think and do.

As the head of our Marketing department, I get lots of calls during the day, most of them cold calls from people wanting to sell things to me. I almost never pick up unless I know the number/caller ID. Instead, I listen to the voicemails via email. I do listen to all of them, and occasionally return calls that are relevant to me. So in my opinion, yes, people listen to voice mails and people making cold calls should put as much if not more effort into crafting a tight message as they put into call scripts/dialog.
